Two poems by Hein Min Tun

1. Freedom

forgetting
it was all yesterday. Look into your lies
before your old mirror. Plunge deep beyond
those boundaries which like parlor curtains hide
your gloomy home matters, hyphenated
with sobs. You drown the sounds
in varied colors of cacophony so
your neighbors and strangers cannot hear.

reminiscences
whispering into your ears in the recurrent breezes
rippling across green grass, carrying humble smells
of the love that needs you though you may need it not.
Love is asleep just beneath the iced snow
of a winter spell locked in. The stubborn door
is on the surface of your skinny ambience
smothering your autonomy.

reloving
wounds, old or still open, have the unanimous
answer. They can't be dealt with by fire.
Fire, your fire, accepts to be calmed by water.
Undress those weak truths that only make you
look ok, feel ok in the normal light.
Walk naked back to him. Walk naked.
You walk pure and original.
When you are without those ordinary clothes,
you will know, in the utter nudity of self,
all that you need to huddle to
in the winter of your life.

2. I am here

My smile has plucked a scrap of morning tinge
and makes the beholders warm with spring.
I am the lit hope, perking up the dusky faces
of colorful dreamers wrapped in a fragile cocoon.

Over the golden land showing off glorious Shwedagone,
July and August strike them hard in relentless torrents.
I wish the gloomy drenched days to worsen.
I am the sunny March with nebulous soft memories
lovingly remembered and eagerly awaited
in their inner clean zones.

Among the white and green uniforms,
my name is written in the dialects;
my heart in the thanakha patches blooming on young faces.
I am the bright spirit dancing blithe
in the swings of fingers holding pencils and books.

In the dilapidated home of the crowded globe;
the place forsaken by her own sons and daughters full-fledged,
I am one of the lowest columns propping it up
and still letting nuanced dreams extend beyond the azure sky
in the little hearts of the newly born.
