Reclaim the Night by Priyanka Banerjee and Dustin Pickering

"Turning and turning round the gyre the falcon cannot hear the falconer".

Blood stained white cloth of the doctor

awakened the slumberous nation that worships woman as Devi, the female seer.

You silenced her forever -

Broken bones, torn legs, bitten breasts;

The massacre!

Colourless flesh was coloured by your semen, nails, teeth and lies.

Rapists pounced upon her just as beasts eat up each other -

Merciless brutal torture

inflicted upon the "other"!

Shame ! Shame ! Shame !

Fall is inevitable when you tear apart the mother of the nation

and drink her blood -

No tear!

Millions of women will protest now and dry up the flood

of tears.

Woman, divinity! Woman, divinity! I hear the shouts:

We want justice! Her body full of falling rage as the flag on high,

despondent, fleshless!

The mind cannot fathom the restless truths untold…

a little girl—her mother besides—breathing, in confluence of the river of surrender.

We want justice! Cry, let the wounds flow with blood and fear,

ooze out, the night is still young!

She is still with us—the seer of our rising hour,

sun of defeat upon your wicked, insincere brow o rapist!

How could they slave to this body their own desires? Such is the stol’n power,

ripped and vanquished from their eyes: guilt, we want justice!

The gyres ever widening turn, filled with horror and lust,

the gyres bring the only thing back to us—

the sweet song. Protest. Woman, divine!
