Two poems by Abeera Mirza

Love is a River

A trickling stream,
Births a hopeful dream,
Sunlight dances on a silver ribbon,
And we make love to a natural rhythm

Steady and serene,
Or down waterfalls we careen,
We navigate life together,
Through all storms may we weather

For better or for worse,
The river will continue its course,
Sharp words cut like jagged rocks,
And there is no way to turn back clocks

So carve a new path with me,
Plunge into the depths of uncertainty,
Let’s lose ourselves in each other’s eyes,
And let the current carry us to bluer skies

Water is Gold

Gold surrounds me,
But does not acknowledge my mastery,
An ocean of desert sand,
Alone in a barren land

I lift a grain to my eye,
To another world, I could fly
Though no matter how I trust,
The wind will only scatter dust

What hides behind a wall of thorns,
But a broken heart as it mourns,
A journey cannot be bottled and sold,
And in a desert, water is gold
