Phantoms of Sorrows by Kheemchand Koli

Now I am weak and weary

I submit to all sinister shadows

Who like demons descended on me

To wring out my verve and worth

Whenever I dared to chase my dream

My angels betrayed me in my battle

And devils did their job fully

Leaving me to only loss and lament

Crestfallen and cut deep insides

My heart sobs at lingering loss

How heartless was the pen of fate

Floundering and failing me

Whenever I ventured to get the guerdon

That belonged to me

Lifelong endeavors ended in heartaches

Now dumb and defeatist

I pore over the pages of poetry

To soften my sinking heart

I pretend to be a child for a moment

Playing with little ones in the twilight

I sink away in momentary solitude

Talking with walls enclosing me

Nothing salves my pain for good

Phantoms of sickening sorrows

Keep pricking my heart without pause
